prognosis helps you know what is possible

Excess versus Deficiency in Prognosis:

Excess type pathologies are quicker to rectify than deficiency type pathologies. This portion of the Prognosis-O-Matic may require an actual TCM diagnosis, but I'll give you a sense of what excess and deficiency means anyway.

Excess type pathologies arise from having too much of something. Eating too much food gives rise to all sorts of gastrointestinal complaints. Having too much stress in your life is excessive in nature. Excess type pathologies give rise to loud complaining, loud coughing, explosive strong odor diarrhea, and so forth.

Deficiency type pathologies are problems that come from not having enough of something. Chronic fatigue is a good example of a deficiency. Other deficiencies give rise to a very soft voice, or weak cough, fatigue, lack of libido, weakness, and so forth.

Mixed pathologies are not unusual. For instance the stress induced diarrhea that was mentioned a while back is both excessive in the stress portion and deficient in the digestion's response to the stress.

I suffer from an excess

Good for you. Its much easier to remove stuff than it is to add it. Excess pathologies can be fixed perhaps twice as fast as deficiencies. Thing is, excess pathologies, given enough time can turn into deficiency type pathologies. So, if you have an excess, it'll probably be easy to fix, but if its been going on for more than six months, expect there to be some deficiency in there as well.

I suffer from deficiency

This brings us right back to the one month of treatment for each year of pathology rule. If the deficiencies are profound, for instance if you're reading this from your hospital suite where you've lived for the past ten years, add a bit more time to the process.

I suffer from both

By the time that patients actually end up visiting us at Beyond Well Being, their problems have often become quite complex and show attributes of both excess and deficiency. In such a case we tend to treat the excess problems first and then the deficiency. The reasoning on this is that if we strengthen the deficiency before we've removed the excess components, we can end up strengthening the excessive components and aggravate that aspect of your pathology. Removing the excess components can also aggravate the deficiency, so in either case, we work very carefully to bring your body back into balance keeping an eye on what is excessive and what is deficient.

Generally the excessive component of your problem will respond before the deficiency part.
